Picture
I am a scientist, educator, and naturalist with a Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Minnesota.  I have over two decades of experience in education, research, and conservation, specializing in aquatic and terrestrial insects, freshwater mussels, crayfish, and other invertebrates. Currently based in Portland, Oregon, I work with governmental and non-profit organizations, natural resource agencies, and educators from Canada to México to provide the following:

-  aquatic habitat biomonitoring 
-  scuba and snorkel surveys for freshwater mussels

-  natural resource outreach and education 
-  citizen science and stewardship learning programs 
-  field surveys to assess species status and map distributions 
-  species and habitat management plans
​-  training and outreach in English and Spanish

-  CASM Environmental, LLC is certified as an  Emerging Small Business in the state of Oregon
- Zee Searles Mazzacano is a NAUI-certified SCUBA Instructor and Advanced Rescue Diver.


Half-day and full day workshops and short presentations are available on: aquatic invertebrates; beneficial insects; insect pollinators; urban insect conservation; recognizing and managing common garden pests; dragonflies & damselflies; freshwater mussels; insect migration; environmentally-friendly mosquito management; impacts of climate change on insects; insect-plant co-evolution; and invertebrate-based bioassessment.
